YOUR AUGUST CHALLENGE
"Everyone can participate"
Challenge yourself for the month of August
and help train two nurses in Nepal
Following the success of NAFA supporters in climbing Mt Cooroora a record 12 times in one day and hiking 100 kms in 25 hours on Mt Glorious, we have decided to bring the idea of a personal challenge to those of us who are mere mortals but who share NAFA’s aim to make a difference to disadvantaged people’s lives in Nepal.
So now it’s your turn, not to climb a mountain or walk incredible distances, but rather undertake a personal challenge and in doing so raise some funds for a great cause. It could improve your health and even be fun!
Challenge yourself to help NAFA raise $5000 for two disadvantaged students (one from theremote village of Tawal and one from VSN School in the pottery town of Thimi) to undertake a 3 years nursing course, and ultimately obtain meaningful employment.
How?
For just one month, during August (or earlier if you like) we ask you to give up something eg alcohol or buying new clothes or sponsor yourself by walking every day. Donate what you have saved/rewarded yourself to NAFA to help us achieve our goal.
Download our Flyer here for more information.
Download a Participants Form here and join the challenge
Why?
We know some dedicated students in NAFA’s educational sponsorship program who would like to study nursing but their families have no chance of affording the fees. We want to lend a hand in helping them achieve their dreams so they in turn can help their communities.

Tawal Teacher Sponsorship Appeal

Pictured: Deepak displaying the first science equipment at the school .
NAFA is seeking individuals or groups who could commit to sponsor a teacher in the remote village of Tawal, Nepal at the current subsidised rate of AUS $3,200 per year (current at 2010) over a three year period.
(Part sponsorship would also be welcomed)
Your donation will help pay the salary of Deepak Pandy, the Science teacher at Tawal, who is currently being sponsored by NAFA from its general fundraising efforts until the Nepalese government is able to fund more teachers in remote villages.
Employing Deepak at the local school encourages up to 35 children to remain in Tawal in the higher classes of 8, 9 and 10 where they otherwise would have to walk up to 3 hours a day to access the nearest school with a science teacher.
.Please contact Rod or Deb Setterlund setterlund@hotmail.com or ph 33661826 if you are interested in helping with this project aimed at benefiting rural children in Nepal

2010 - NEPALESE NEW YEAR CELEBRATION
"Thank you all supporters,it was a great success"
Total raised $13,000
Once again, a full house for our 2010 Nepalese
New Year Celebration.
The 400 supporters who attended were entertained by a professional programme of singing and dancing put on by members of the Nepalese Community. As usual, the Nepalese food from Punam at the Tibetan Kitchen was delicious.
The Annual dinner allows NAFA to showcase their aid projects and report to their supporters what has been achieved and what is planed for the future.
The NAFA army of supporters and workers ( the red shirts) were out in force as usual, behind the scenes washing dishes, setting out the tables and dressing the hall.
Thank you to all the red shirts. and thank you to all supporters who paid and attended and then dipped into their pockets again to buy raffle tickets, and participate in the silent auctions.
The amount raised on the night was in excess of $13,000.
Thank you all supporters.
SEE YOU ALL NEXT YEAR AT THE ANNUAL NEW YEAR CELEBRATION>

Project Update :- Thanks to the generorsity of 5 wonderful supporters, we now have ongoing donations which will cover the project costs for the next 3 years. These donations will enable NAFA to increase the health worker's salaries and provide training and resources when needed. The health workers and the people of Tawal and surrounding villages are extremely appreciative of the fact that NAFA funding and support makes access to a health service possible. An initial evaluation of this project shows that it is meeting the aim of improving the health of local people through good quality prevention and treatment.
